Serving on the Bloomington School Board has been the opportunity of a lifetime, but I’m not ready to be done. We still have plenty of work to do and I’m excited to keep fighting for our kids.
Advocacy
Collaborate with ALL of Bloomington’s constituencies: students, families, teachers, paras, staff and administration to find the best solutions
Work alongside our community members to make sure their voices are heard, that school board decisions are communicated, and that we build a space for open dialogue
Ensure our entire staff (teachers, paras, food service staff, bus drivers, etc.) have fair contracts and feel supported
Equity
Ensuring an equitable approach to all district business, regardless of what school or zip code a student lives in
Challenging our leadership, staff and community members to fight issues of racism and inequities in our system, making the changes needed to build a more fair, more just school community
Celebrate the diversity of race, religion, gender identity, and thought across the district, lifting up our students and staff who are making a difference in our community
Work diligently to hire more teachers and staff of color, striving to help our students see themselves in the educational institutions around them
Opportunity
As we continue to grow and expand our district offerings, we need to make sure our current programs aren’t neglected. We need to invest in opportunities to grow new programs and sustain our foundation
Invest in ways to help support all students across the district with more access to mental health resources, educational assistance, and options for growth
Work with local and state leaders to ensure appropriate funding for our schools
Ensure all students have access to participation in extra- and co-curricular activities, regardless of their financial situation
How will I get this done?
The vision above is an ambitious goal, but I have the experience, skills, and drive to get things done as a member of the Bloomington School Board. As a homegrown advocate for students and educators, I know I can work hard for the community and move us forward.
Through my experiences as a classroom teacher and a coach, I know what it feels like to work in the schools and the effects that policies have on the day to day. I promise to use this experience in every decision I make as a board member, ensuring that the students and staff are at the forefront.
I don’t shy away from a challenge - I roll up my sleeves and get to work. During my time in higher education and nonprofit fundraising, I’ve overhauled programs and asked the questions that needed to be asked. I’m not afraid to stand up for what’s right and to get to the bottom of the situation. I’ll use this same skillset as a member of the School Board to make sure we’re moving in the right direction.
None of this work can be done alone. My approach to solving problems is to gather the best minds and the biggest hearts together, engaging in conversation, and taking those ideas to the next level. I’m able to connect with, work alongside, and embrace the differences we have to make the best decisions for the whole.
Together, we can build a better future for all of Bloomington.
